A volunteer-run website listing Barnes clubs, events, volunteering and community projects went live on 11 July. The Barnes Hub, at barneshub.co.uk, came out of the Barnes Community Association's second Barnes Ponder exercise, and is run by local volunteers who have pulled together in one place the sort of information that has until now been scattered across noticeboards and half-remembered Facebook groups.
The test for a site like this is not the launch but the upkeep: a directory of local groups is only as good as its most recently updated entry. If the volunteers keep it current through the autumn, it will save residents a great deal of searching. The question by the new year is a simple one: does the events page still list things that have not yet happened?
